GOT A LONG COMPANY NAME? 4 WAYS TO HAVE AN IMPACTFUL AND MEMORABLE LOGO

There is nothing wrong with having a long company name! At times as a service professional, you want to use your own name as your brand name which could be a long one or you’re trying to add an SEO keyword to the brand name, which is also good practice from a searchability point of view. Whatever the reason, having a longer company name as long as it holds meaning, is totally okay. With that out of the way, let’s talk about presenting your brand name in a way that’s impactful at first glance, memorable, and organized. And trust me, a brand identity designer can whip up creative ways to design a timeless logo for you! Here’s how.

1. HORIZONTAL LOGOS

The first, and most common way to design a long brand name logo is by using a horizontal position where the whole name is placed one word after the other in a uniform typography style. Although this type of logo design is good for any company name, it works best for names that are a couple of words or a maximum of three words long. Take a look at one of my brand identity design projects (branding for interior designers - Melrose Partners Designs)

2. STACKED LOGO DESIGN

If your brand name is even longer than a couple of words, no problem! There are creative ways to deal with this. Take a look at the following example of a brand identity design I completed recently for a Chicago-based real estate consultant (see project HERE). As you can see from the image below, the brand name is long and so what I did was I broke the name up into three parts and stacked them one below the other. Then using the basics of good typography, I designed the logo in a way that puts more focus on the main name which in this case is - Saint Germain while putting less focus on the second part of the name which is - real estate consulting. Creating this hierarchy makes the logo design very interesting, and impactful, and also removes any inconvenience that may be caused by a long brand name.

3. A LOGO MARK

Being a logo designer, a part of the complete brand identity system that I find really interesting to design is the logo mark. It is the smallest icon that belongs to the complete brand identity system but is powerful enough to convey the essence of a brand even in places where the primary logo is not being used. It gives you the flexibility to present your brand in a neat way even in places where your full brand name cannot fit (imagine trying to cram a full logo inside a 16 x 16 px profile photo circle!)

This is exactly why the logo mark really works in case you have a long company name. Having a logo mark in your brand’s arsenal really solidifies and adds personality to your overall visual branding. Following is an example of a logo mark I designed as a part of branding for a real estate consultant).

4. USING BADGE LOGOS CREATIVELY

Another awesome way to provide more information to your clients without bombarding their brains is by using badge logos. This is a creative way to wrap long company names and/or company taglines in a neat lock-up. As with logo design, a badge logo can also be designed in unique ways. This helps in presenting the brand essence accurately. Not just that, badge logos offer a different option to visually present your brand on different platforms - digital as well as print.

So having such visual pieces representing your brand, working with a long brand name is very much manageable!

BONUS TIP

When you hire a brand designer to help you craft a timeless brand identity, remember that there is one thing that will always make a design stand out - adding an appropriate amount of space. Uniform space between the letters of your brand name as well as space between each line of the logo lock-up will offer better readability to your logo no matter how long your brand name is.

CONCLUSION

Do not let a long company name stop you from having an impactful brand presence that can take your passion-fueled creative service business to the next level. The truth is if you work with an experienced brand identity designer, they will guide you in the best way and they will find creative solutions that best fit your brand needs + goals.

If you are ready to take your business to the next level where you can attract your ideal clients on auto-pilot, I’d love to chat with you! You’re magical and I would love to support you in your journey!
